Scar treatment available on prescription A treatment for red and raised scars, Cica-Care from Smith and Nephew, is now available on prescription. It consists of a self-adhesive silicone gel sheet that is now available on the Drug Tariff in a thinner version to improve conformability. The company says it works by flattening, softening and fading hypertrophic and keloid scars and that there is evidence that improvements in appearance are permanent. The company says it is suitable for all low-exudating wounds, that it is double-sided, and available in sterile and non-sterile format.

Extended Nurse Prescriber's List Link to the Department of Health website detailing items prescribable by nurses under the new scheme. Following training, independent nurse prescribers under the extended scheme will be able to prescribe all General Sales List and Pharmacy medicines currently prescribable by GPs at NHS expense, together with a list of Prescription Only Medicines. This will enable them to manage a range of specified medical conditions - minor ailments, minor injuries, health promotion and palliative care.
